We aim at jobs and wealth creation- Nabbanja at manifesto week launch

Friday 12th May 2023

Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, has assured Ugandans that the NRM manifesto under implementation is on the right course to improve Ugandans' lives through job and wealth creation.

Nabbanja revealed this today, Friday, during the launch of Manifesto Week activities held at the President’s office in Kampala.

"The government has established a PDM SACCO at each of the 10,594 Parishes and committed to capitalize the 10,594 PDM SACCOs with UGX 1.059.4 trillion, every FY.

This 2022–23 Financial Year, the government has so far released UGX 794.55 billion for the revolving funds, out of which UGX 221.975 billion has already been disbursed directly to the bank accounts of 8,879 ready PDM SACCOs in 162 Local Governments," Nabbanja said, noting that the initiative is aimed at eliminating poverty among the 39% of the population living in the subsistence economy.

In addition to utilizing PDM funds, Nabbanja said that the government has also completed the construction of industrial hubs in various parts of the country and equipped them with welding machines, carpentry machines, tailoring machines, baking machines, stone cutting machines, block making machines, shoe making machines, and value addition machines to create direct employment for youth and women.

"The facilities established have the capacity to skill over 600 Ugandans per year in different disciplines for free, and so far thousands have been passed out from these facilities," Nabbanja said.

With the continued good leadership of President Museveni and the commitment of different actors, Nabbanja said, "The government is on course to achieve most of the targets that were set out in the Manifesto 2021–2026."

She promised Ugandans and investors that the government, through security agencies, is committed to maintaining peace and security, as they are core ingredients upon which the various social and economic activities are hinged.

The NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rt.Hon. Rose Namayanja, said the party's manifesto focused on jobs and wealth creation for Ugandans because of the post-COVID-19 effects that had left many people poor and unemployed.

"That's why the key flagship project for this manifesto is the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga initiatives to cushion the country and bring Ugandans into the money economy," Namayanja said as she spoke at the manifesto week launch.

Namayanja boasted that the NRM party led by President Museveni has achieved a lot, and so the manifesto week gives them an opportunity to disseminate information to people at the village level through leaders and the media.

"A lot of achievements have been made even in the past terms, and so we want this good news known to Ugandans not only during manifesto week but to make it routine at the national and local government levels up to the lowest level of government," Namayanja stressed.

Minister of State for Kampala City, Hon.Kabuye Kyofatogabye, said manifesto week provides a platform for the government to inform citizens about what is going on as far as service delivery is concerned.

The activities will run from today, May 12th, until May 26th, 2023.
