United Nations lauds Museveni on peace and development efforts in East Africa

The United Nations Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region H.E Huang XIA has lauded NRM party chairman and President of Uganda, Gen Yoweri Museveni for his efforts in addressing what he called multiple peace, security and development challenges in the East African region. This was during a meeting between H.E Huang and Foreign Affairs minister Gen Jeje Odongo at the Foreign Affairs headquarters on Wednesday.

During the meeting that was also attended by Ms Susan Ngongi Namondo, the UN Resident Coordinator and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E XIA informed the minister that the UN has developed a revitalized Strategy and Plan of Action towards Peace, Security and Development of the region. He echoed a call from the UN to all the member states to support the process.

Gen Odongo and H.E XIA held in-depth discussions on Peace, Security and Development in the Great Lakes Region.

Mr Xia commended Uganda's progressive refugee policy which is greatly appreciated and acknowledged by the UN and the International community as a whole.

Gen Odongo welcomed the UN’s new Strategy and Plan of Action for the Great Lakes Region and reassured Mr. Xia that Uganda will play its role in supporting the initiative towards achieving regional peace, security and development. He accepted the UN’s invitation to participate at the next session of the UN Security Council to share his views on the Region.
