The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong has rallied West Nile leaders and the community to focus on eliminating illiteracy of the population by encouraging education of all children, saying it is through education that the region will develop. SG Todwong said yesterday in Koboko district as he concluded a three-day regional visit.
"West Nile is now at peace and stable. I encourage you to use the peace to educate your children and work on improving homestead income to catch up with the rest of the regions in terms of growth and development," Todwong said.
With the region now connected to the national grid, Todwong said he is hopeful that factories will enhance production and manufacturing.
Todwong and his NRM team visited and commissioned the newly constructed 1.9 Billion Oru Bridge, which links Koboko and Maracha districts to facilitate trade and mobility of people, goods and services.
He later visited Koboko General Hospital to assess the ongoing construction works to enlarge the medical facility.
Todwong pledged to advocate for urgent infrastructure upgrades, including the Nebbi-Arua highway and a second Nile crossing, saying “These projects will unlock West Nile’s potential as a gateway to the DRC and South Sudan,” he noted.
Hajat Medina Naham Ojale, NRM Director of Finance and Administration, explained that the tour was part of a broader Northern Uganda outreach. “From Lango to Acholi, and now West Nile, we’re consolidating voices for equitable development,” she said, hinting at manifesto pledges tailored to regional needs.
The event also drew leaders from Pakwach, Zombo, Arua, and Adjumani.
