SG Todwong tips new structure leaders on community empowerment

Friday 23rd May 2025

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Rt Hon Richard Todwong, has called upon the newly elected party structure leaders to foster unity, uphold democratic principles, and champion economic prosperity for their communities.

While addressing the leaders in Nwoya and Gulu districts this evening, Todwong rallied the leaders to be responsible in their execution of leadership roles.

"Be peaceful amongst yourselves and concentrate on issues that take the party forward," he advised. Drawing an analogy, Todwong cautioned, "A dog however big and fierce it may be, cannot defend a home as long as it is infected with ticks. It will keep on itching itself instead of charging against intruders." This, he implied, is akin to a party plagued by internal disputes, unable to effectively address external challenges or serve its constituents.

He firmly warned against any internal machinations aimed at derailing the party's objectives.

"We don't want any schemes of hijacking the party," Todwong declared emphatically. "As long as I am the SG, I will fight that to my death." He underscored that the prevailing peace and stability in Uganda are a direct result of the "quality of leadership of [President] Museveni," urging members to protect these gains.

The NRM Secretariate head called for a spirit of reconciliation, particularly following the internal electoral processes and further urged the masses to accept the newly elected leaders.
