The NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong has commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM government for restoring peace and tranquillity in the West Nile subregion and the entire northern region, which has led to growth and sustainable development.
SG Todwong praised the government yesterday while in Yumbe district, West Nile as the subregion marked 23 years since the end of a civil war with rebel groups that had made the area ungovernable.
"We thank President Museveni for choosing Peace over war. The people in this subregion had run into either DR Congo or South Sudan in fear of persecution but when the NRM government came to power, it called them back, resettled them and worked with them up to today," Todwong said.
Mr. Todwong said that Museveni went ahead to initiate peace through dialogue and negotiations with many rebel groups that had made Westnile ungovernable to bring peace and "the dividends of the peace is now growth and development of the subregion in terms of roads connectivity, electricity, health care facilities, education among others," NRM's head of the Secretariat remarked.
He assured the people of the northern region to keep supporting the NRM government because "it has good policies and strategies that are aimed at eliminating poverty in the households."
"I implore the population to embrace empowerment programs by the government like the Parish Development Model, Emyooga among others to utilise the money to expand their incomes."
The Peace Day celebrations were attended by several leaders and thousands of people from the subregion.
