The ruling NRM has commended the People’s Republic of China for always siding with Uganda and the entire African continent in various areas, which has boosted trade and development, said the NRM Director of External Affairs, Maj (Rtd) Awich Pollar.

Maj. Awich revealed this today in a meeting with a delegation of leaders from the Communist Party of China (CPC) at the NRM headquarters. The meeting featured a section of NRM cadres that visited CPC headquarters last year.

The delegation led by Ms Rao Huihoa, Director General of the International Liaisons Department, is in Uganda for three working days, having jetted into the country yesterday, Sunday.

“Uganda and China share historical friendship because both have fought for the liberation and freedoms of their citizens against imperialism,” Awich said, adding that even after independence, China has continued to “support us to steer development and prosperity.”

Awich noted with satisfaction the fruitful outcomes of both Uganda-China relations and their fraternal cooperation in the past over 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

“Your theme of passing to modernisation is key and crucial to us as Uganda in terms of culture and mutual respect. We don't want anyone to impart his values on us as we pursue the path of modernisation respectfully without manipulation,” Awich said.

Ms Huihoa‘s expressed firm support to Uganda in independently exploring a development path suited to its domestic conditions.

The CPC pledged to continue supporting the NRM party on capacity building through providing platforms for ideological training.

“We are happy that you have shared with us your perspectives after your visit to China and also what you have learned during your trips to China and also your perspectives and proposals for the future of the relations between our two parties and two countries and also on the China-Africa relations,” She said, adding that, “we look forward to working together with the NRM and share knowledge through workshops and our training.

The Meeting was also attended by Counsel Charles Egwau, the executive assistant to the Secretary-General and a former Legislator.
