NRM praises slain Min. Engola for his selfless service

Thursday 4th May 2023

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has paid tribute to Rtd. Col. Charles Engola 'Macadwogo', who died on Tuesday this week, praising him as a selfless, courageous, and patriotic public servant who diligently served the nation.

Hon. Engola, until his demise on Tuesday this week, was the Minister of State for Labor, Employment, and Industrial Relations and Member of Parliament for the people of Oyam North in Oyam district.

In a press conference held today, Thursday, at the party headquarters at plot 10 Kyadondo Road, Nakasero, the NRM Secretary-General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, said the death of Min. Engola leaves behind a big gap.

SG Todwong said, "Hon. Engola was a very strong pillar of the party in Oyam in Lango sub-region and in the whole of the northern region and Uganda at large. He was at the centre of fighting the insurgency in northern Uganda, and that is how he gained his nickname,  Macadwogo, because he was very active in fighting LRA rebels."

He joined the NRA in the early 1980s and has since worked closely with President Museveni and the leadership of the National Resistance Movement party.

"Because of that, his people, after retiring, gave him a chance to become the LC5 Chairman of Oyam district and later as Oyam North MP. We shall miss his ability to mobilize and bring unity to Lango. His charisma and everything about him will greatly be missed," Todwong remarked.

He condoled with the bereaved family, government, and president for the heavy loss: "The party has lost a giant, and we pray that his soul rests in eternal peace. We shall surely miss such an industrious leader who diligently served the nation and his Oyam people".

Todwong requested that the government do a thorough investigation and give a full report about his death and what could have happened on that fateful morning.
