A high-powered delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is on an official visit in Uganda to deepen bilateral relations and strategic cooperation with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
The CPC delegation jetted into the country on Tuesday 28th February led by His Excellency, Li Mingxiang, the Vice Minister for the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist party of China(IDCPC).
This morning, they were received at the NRM party headquarters by the Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong who was in the company of members of the Central Executive Committee and other senior party officials.
The two party sides had an in-depth exchange of views on China-Uganda relations on issues of mutual interests. They spoke highly on the traditional friendship between the CPC and NRM party.
Todwong noted with satisfaction the fruitful outcomes of both Uganda-China relations and their friendly cooperation in the past over 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
“Your theme of pass to modernisation is key and crucial to us as Uganda in terms of culture and mutual respect. We don't want anyone to impart his values on us as we pursue the path of modernization respectfully without manipulation,” Todwong said.
The two sides agreed to further deepen traditional friendship and political mutual trust, strengthen strategic coordination and share experience on governance.
Todwong applauded China’s support during liberations struggles in Africa especially to NRM during the bush war of 1986 which removed bad leadership.
Mr.Mingxiang expressed firm support for Uganda in independently exploring a development path suited to its domestic conditions.
The CPC pledged to continue supporting the NRM party on capacity building through providing platforms for ideological training.
“Uganda is a good friend and partner in various fields. We are committed to enhancing the relations in political, economic and social areas,” Mr. Li said.
After a meeting at the party headquarters, both the NRM and CPC leadership were led to the Chinese Embassy in Kololo. The Chinese side briefed NRM leaders on the 20th Congress of the Communist party of China which was held last year 2022 as they marked their centenary cerebrations.
The senior party leaders included regional Vice Chairpersons, Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda and Hon. Singh Katongole, the Deputy Secretary General, Rt Hon Rose Namayanja Nsereko, NRM Electoral commission Chairman Dr Tanga Odoi, Director of External affairs Maj (Rtd) Awich Pollar and the party’s Deputy National Treasurer Hon Jackline Kyatuhaire.
