Ambassador Perez praises the strong bilateral relations between Uganda and Cuba

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Uganda, H. E Tania Perez Xiques, has today met the party structure for the Workers' League in a meeting chaired by Mr. James Tweheyo, the Worker's League Chairperson. 

The purpose of the meeting was to renew the workers' cooperation in the areas of knowledge exchange and bench marking.

While addressing the meeting, H. E. Perez said that the meeting was also aimed at designing a strategy to meet the party structures of the workers' league, youth, entrepreneurs' league, and women.

"The bilateral relationship between Uganda and Cuba has been existing since way back, it's important not to lose this relationship; hence there's a need to renew bilateral relations in areas of co-operation," the ambassador said.

There's a need to strengthen and revive the inter-labour unions between Uganda and Cuba, and also to create cooperation and bench marking between the workers of Uganda and Cuba. She added. 

On his part, the Chairman of the Workers League, Mr. James Tweheyo, thanked the Cuban government for this initiative and stressed that the history between Uganda and Cuba started back in 1986 when Uganda had a shortage of medicine and pharmaceutical products and Cuba offered a helping hand. He praised the bilateral relations that have strengthened since then. 

He said that Cubans are the most patriotic people in the world, and he said he was delighted to cooperate with the Cuban government.

Mrs. Aciro Beatrice Okeny, the National Vice Chairperson of Workers (Northern) said that there's a need to experience how the Cuban labor organizations negotiate with the government on the issues of policy and the levels of interaction between the government and labor unions.
