The NRM leaders from the Acholi west districts have endorsed President and Party National Chairman, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the sole candidate for the 2026 elections and beyond, saying he is still very popular and steadfast towards improving the country's prosperity.
The leaders who included NRM district Chairpersons, District Executive Committees, sub-county and opinion leaders from Gulu, Omoro, Nwoya and Amuru districts, declared their support for President Museveni's sole candidature today at a meeting that was called by NRM Secretary General, Rt.Hon.Richard Todwong at St Monica Adel Center in Gulu City.
The leaders who spoke at length during the meeting said they haven't seen a leader in the NRM who is as popular, visionary and capable as President Museveni.
"We support President Museveni for another term because he has championed the restoration of the existing relative peace, stability, and inclusivity of all people in the growth and development of the country. It is the reason we support his presidential bid without any internal contests," the leaders said.
Rt. Hon. Todwong had called the meeting to harmonise the leaders, some of whom are already expressing interest in various seats at various levels from county councils up to the parliamentary level.
"I urge our members who are aspiring for any position to do it with utmost respect to one another during primaries. I don't expect insults and alterations because we are a family," Todwong said.
He also warned the party members against cliques that are formed to fight one another and promote intrigue. "Those groups create unnecessary tension leading to disorder," he said.
He assured the NRM supporters of free and fair primary and structure elections because the party "now has a clean and trusted voters' register that will sort all issues which have been emerging out of primary elections."
"We now have a clean register, having gone back and forth to you to ensure the captured data was legitimate and reliable," Todwong said.
This time around, Todwong said, "I expect whoever loses in the upcoming primaries to accept the results and support the ticket winner to defeat the opposition."
The meeting was attended by several incumbent Acholi members of Parliament.
