Todwong tells NRM Lango leaders to be firm amidst intimidation

Wednesday 25th September 2024

The NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong has challenged party leaders and supporters in the Lango sub region to stand up against intimidation and propaganda of some opposition elements ahead of 2026 general election campaigns.

Todwong said today in Lira city as he met NRM structure leaders from the 10 districts of the sub region.

"NRM supporters are the majority in Lango. Why should you be bullied by the minority? Stand up and speak up about the good things President Museveni and his leadership have done instead of feeling victimized and helpless," Todwong advised the leaders.

He added that "NRM is known for promoting unity, prosperity and peace from border to border unlike previous regimes which were famous for human right violations and state inspired violence.

Mr Todwong took a swipe at some party elements that are said to be hobnobbing with some opposition people to stop it because it costs the party support. "Be NRM inside and out both day and night. When you are everywhere, you are nowhere as a leader," He cautioned the leaders.

"Divided loyalty breeds greed, selfishness and laziness in leaders which we cannot tolerate in the mass party," Todwong said.

He said that the Secretariat leadership is ready to revamp the love and spirit of the supporters in the region to make the party more desirable in the next elections and beyond.

Todwong advised the NRM not to lament about the party's decline in the recent elections in Lango but to interest themselves in addressing the pertinent issues affecting the people if they are to win back the population.

"The people vote for leaders who speak to their feelings and desires. Once the NRM abandons them, they seek refuge in other parties in search for hope and better livelihoods," Todwong said as he responded to worries of some leaders on the continued growth of the opposition in Lango.

"You should be seen advocating for better service delivery by condemning corruption, denouncing over charging of school fees in government schools among other issues. This is the only way to win over support and love from the ordinary voters," Todwong said.

The Apac district Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Susan Engola revealed that internal scribbles among the party members are to partly blame for the decline in performance of the NRM.

"The bickering has given an opportunity to our opponents to make quick inroads into some of the NRM territories yet with cohesion, such negative forces would be contained.

Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman reiterated that leaders endeavor to resist wrong things even if they are done by the government officials.

“This is the way we shall make our party popular and likeable in the population,” Tanga said, imploring the leaders to renew their faith and commitment ahead of the vigorous campaign.

The three-day activity which began today was also attended by NRM Directors, Hon. Emmanuel Dombo for communications, Hajjat Medina Naham for Finance and Administration, Counsel Awich Polar, the Director for External Relations and Maj. Okwir Rabwoni, the director of Youth and Institutions.

SG Todwong tomorrow together his team and area legislators will traverse Kwania, Apac and Dokolo districts to attend community barazas aimed at diagnosing the issues related to fishing communities challenges and wetlands usage.
