Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko Praises NRM Government for Establishing National Youth Council as a Breeding Ground for Leaders

Saturday 14th January 2023

The Deputy Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement party, Rt.Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko has praised President Museveni and the NRM government for establishing the National Youth Council (NYC), which she says has been a breeding ground for the majority of leaders in the country.

“I commend the goodwill and the vision of our revolutionary leaders who started the NYC. There is no way young people would have played a meaningful role and shaping the politics of the country because they knew young people have a better role to play.

In any case, the majority of the people who fought in the jungles of Luweero were young people- the Kadogos,” Namayanja said yesterday in a speech during the NYC Alumni dinner at Pearl of Africa Hotel.

The deputy SG also said, “We thank the NRM government for such a youth-favoring policy which has played a fundamental role in nurturing the ambitious young people that have an interest in politics.”

The NYC structures have not only benefitted Ugandans but have also been copied and implemented in the fraternal countries in the East African region.

“We commend this deliberate policy that has groomed us into what we are today and where we have reached.”

Benefits from NYC

Mrs. Namayanja said the NYC platform has been very crucial in networking and connections among people. She said, “The people you are moving with today are the same you will move with, in many more years to come. So let us harness those networks.”

She also praised the forum for equipping young people with competencies that are very key in shaping them on how to deal with everyone without conflicts hence, building them into a better leaders.

“The challenge of dealing with young people, helps you build the ability to maneuver through the youth dynamic issues and shapes you into a better and patient leader,” the former youth leader both at the district and national level said.

“I haven’t seen someone who has gone through youth council leadership that is below average where ever they are,” Namayanja remarked.

Recommendations

She recommended that young leaders work harder on their abilities in terms of their education, knowledge, and information to build more capacity. “Because, once you improve yourself, you make yourself more relevant to society.”

“Don’t be tempted to think that all you need is becoming a Member of Parliament or minister. Continue adding onto your books and become more valuable,” the former minister appealed to the youths.

The alumni dinner was also attended by Hon Judith Nalule Nabakooba who represented Vice President H.E Jesica Alupo, Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua, and Minister of state for youth and children Affairs, Hon. Sarah Nyirabashitsi and Hajat Medina Naham, NRM director for Finance and Administration.
