The NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko has stressed that the NRM's mobilisation efforts must always address the immediate needs of the people.
"We must mobilise based on the people's interests, understanding their challenges and working out solutions that ensure we move forward together," Namayanja said yesterday while addressing over 200 sugarcane farmers at Buyengo Town Council during the party's ongoing outreach in the Busoga Sub-region.
Rt. Hon. Namayanja, together with Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, NRM National Treasurer, Hon. Alisemera Babiiha, NRM Electoral Commission Commissioner, Hon. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, Director of Mobilisation, Director of Legal Affairs, Counsel Enock Barata, and Senior Manager of Communication, Mr. Mulidwa Rogers are on a fact finding mission in Busoga to engage directly with local leaders, sugarcane growers, and fishing communities. The aim is to address pressing challenges and ensure wealth creation and socio-economic transformation through government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM).
Namayanja acknowledged key concerns raised by the sugarcane farmers, such as withholding taxes on agricultural products and the need for income diversification beyond sugarcane farming.
"We are on a fact-finding mission, and we won’t leave the way we came. We are going back with the right information right from the ground,” she assured the farmers, urging them to consider other income-generating activities for financial stability.
She also reiterated NRM's commitment to empowering households through initiatives such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and the Youth Livelihood Program. "It’s criminal for someone to sign for one million shillings and receive less. We must fight corruption to ensure every shilling reaches the intended beneficiaries,” she emphasised, calling on local leaders to report any cases of mismanagement.
Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo praised the sugarcane growers for their active participation and urged continuous dialogue. “The NRM listens to its people, and we are here to ensure Busoga's communities are heard at the highest levels,” she said, reinforcing the party's commitment to addressing challenges and implementing long-term solutions.
Hon. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde also emphasised the importance of direct community engagement, stating that earlier efforts based on reports alone were insufficient.
"Being here, speaking with people, and witnessing their challenges firsthand is the best way to find real solutions,” she noted. Seninde acknowledged ongoing complaints from the fishing community regarding the Fisheries Protection Unit (FPU) and stressed the importance of educating them on proper fishing methods to avoid conflicts.
