Politics of tribes and religion, a danger to progress- Dombo tells Bukimbiri leaders

Friday 15th July 2022

The Director of Communication at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat, Hon. Emmanuel Lumala Dombo has asked local leaders of Kisoro district and the clergy to desist from politics that is inclined to religious and tribal lines, warning that such is likely to divide communities and drag people back to past regimes.

Hon.Dombo says the ruling party led by President Yoweri Museveni fought past governments of Obote and Amin because of ethnicity and religion, he instead ushered in politics of tolerance and rights to worship in any denomination.

“The NRM party was founded on principles of unity, equality and protecting rights of those with divergent views. I humbly request some of the clergy and all people to concentrate on guiding locals other than dividing them,” Mr Dombo said.

The NRM ideologue who was on Thursday meeting a section of NRM leaders from the seven subcounties of Bukimbiri at Rubuguri town council hall castigated some of the clergy involved in misleading their followers on who to vote, adding that the constitution of Uganda bars clergy and traditional leaders from active politics yet it gives every citizen freedom to worship and rights to association.

He also took a swipe at some leaders who are fronting independent candidates and described them as bad-mannered who wish nothing good to their party and President Yoweri Museveni, adding that people should vote the party candidate to appreciate the fountain of honour for his contribution.

Mr Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu, the NRM flag bearer said the forthcoming by-election is an opportunity of the ordinary people to choose progress.

“I am a tested leader who has been able to lobby for our area various projects especially road equipment that has rehabilitated some of the tourism roads since Bukimbiri county is a home to tourism destinations like Bwindi national park,” Mr kwizera said.

He added, “I know how government operates. I understand how to attract government interests in this place.”

“I understand political campaigns attract emotions but I advise you to keep united and solid to each other since hatred of fellow neighbors will cost communities where you reside,” the NRM flagbearer warned local NRM leaders.

Dombo praises Museveni on peace

Director Dombo praised President Museveni and the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) for pacifying the country and securing the lives and property of the people of Kisoro-a border district near the volatile Democratic Republic of Congo.

The prevailing relative peace and stability in Bukimbiri, Dombo said has enhanced investment and development through tourism.

He also encouraged the people of bukimbiri to embrace poverty alleviation programs like the Emyooga and newly created parish development model.

All parishes in the country are to receive a revolving fund of over 100 million for ordinary people in the subsistence production to invest.

The local leaders after meeting with Mr. Dombo and other party officials resolved to support and campaign for Hon. Kwizera until victory is realized on 11th August. They also appreciated President Yoweri Kaguta for his contribution towards the people of Kisoro district through service delivery and infrastructural developments.
