Oucor charms youth as he seeks to win Serere vote

Thursday 16th February 2023

As the Serere county by-election gains momentum, Mr.Philip Oucor has today charmed the youth while making Campaign inroads in Olio Sub County and Serere town council.

He noted that concerns about unemployment and limited skills for available jobs are well captured in his manifesto.

While drumming for support, Oucor noted, “I am a youth like you. I have laid out clear strategies to save you from unemployment, drug abuse, and redundancy in villages and trading centers, I hope to tackle all those as soon as I am elected to parliament.”

“We shall group you into SACCOs, equip you with required skills and credit so that you can start up meaningful enterprises like tailoring, hairdressing, and carpentry,” Oucor said.

He observed that “youth are the majority in the community. They are very energetic and willing to work but have no jobs where to earn income. This is very risky and can be a source of insecurity if they're not handled quickly.”

He castigated past leaders who for long fed people with handouts instead of lobbying or advising them on the right thing to do. He noted that such behaviors derailed community progress and contributed to household poverty. “We want to create sustainable opportunities for our people and this cannot be achieved through handouts.”

“My mission is to cause a fundamental change in the lives of young people,” Oucor added.

He reiterated that the lasting solution for the youth, women, and community at large is to organize them into groups, and allocate their enterprises so that they can start to work and earn an income.

The NRM National Mobiliser, Hon. Rosemary Seninde on the same trail said, “Once young people are guided well with the right ideology, they will be able to embrace available projects of government and utilize them to improve their standards of living.”

“There is money in Emyooga and parish development model. I implore the youth of Serere to tap into these initiatives,” Seninde said.
Oucor is tussling it out with four other candidates in the race who include; Emmanuel Omonding, Independent, Alice Alaso for Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Emmanuel Eratu of Forum for democratic change( FDC), and Eng. Oungricho Martin is also independent.
