The Director of Mobilization at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) secretariat, Hon. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde has commended the clergy of the Church of Uganda for building a health centre to offer medical treatment to communities of Nkumba parish in Wakiso district.

Hon. Seninde was delivering a donation of shilling 5million on behalf of NRM Secretary-general, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong to the church leadership of St.Luke Nkumba Church of Uganda in Entebbe municipality at a fund-raising function organized to mobilise money to complete the health facility.

Seninde said, “I commend the leadership of this church (Nkumba C.O.U) for not only preaching the gospel but also serving their people and communities around with medical treatment. This is in line with government policy of ensuring every citizen access basic treatment either at the parish or sub-county before running to general hospitals.”  “Other religious denominations should emulate this initiative and the government will come out to give a helping hand,” Seninde appealed.

Rev. Herbert Zziwa, the lead priest of St. Luke Nkumba Church said the idea of constructing a health centre was due to the growing population with limited facilities available to offer treatment to the people living in the four villages which make up Nkumba parish.

“The population here is growing big by each day and this has overstretched the available government facility at the parish to treat our people,” Rev. Zziwa explained.

Zziwa appealed for more support from the government and well-wishers to donate saying they are still a long way to complete the facility.
