NRM will have a dependable register- Migereko

Tuesday 17th December 2024

The NRM Veteran politician Hon. Daudi Migereko believes the NRM will finally have a dependable digital register in next year’s primary elections.

“I can tell you the register has been one of the contentious issues over time. And whenever we have elections, you hear voices about the register. Through this digitization exercise, one of the things that we are hoping to achieve is a clean register, which can be dependable,” Migereko said this week in Iganga district where he has been leading the Busoga NRM data digital centre.

As a solution to the many acrimonious primaries, Migereko said there was a need to deliberately invest in coming up with a verifiable clean membership database to meet the expectations of the people.

Bukedi Data Centre

The Bukedi zonal data centre coordinator Mr Rogers Mulindwa said the work is progressing well in the eight districts with very limited challenges but expressed confidence in finishing on time.

“Despite these issues, the exercise is progressing well, and we are confident that the final register will be credible. Once this exercise is completed, we will have a clean membership register and, subsequently, a credible voters’ register. This will minimize the challenges we have faced in previous party primaries,” Mulindwa said.

Teso Data Centre

Mr Samuel Eyenga, the Teso zonal data centre was impressed by the new NRM members saying it is a significant shift of the people in the sub-region to join the ruling party from the opposition.

“Over 600,000 new members were registered in the membership books and we are so happy about that. This is very good for the growth of the NRM in Teso,” Eyenga said, adding that the majority of new members are young people, indicating a shift towards youth engagement in the NRM party, which is crucial for the party's future.
