NRM Reinforces Anti-Corruption Stance in Kween District Embezzlement Case

Wednesday 22nd May 2024

The Director of Administration and Finance of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Hajjat Medina Naham Ojale, attended a court session at the Kapchorwa Magistrate Court, where she testified in the state’s case against Musau Victor, the District Administrator of Kween District. This case underscores the NRM's commitment to fighting corruption within its ranks.

Hajjat Medina Naham Ojale informed the court that it is her mandate to supervise all district administrators, and Musau Victor served as the District Administrator of Kween District. She testified that on March 11th, a sum of 58,370,000 UGX was sent from the directorate to the NRM District Executive Committee (DEC) Kween District's Centenary Bank account, along with one million shillings to Masua’s MTN number to cater for Local Council operations in hard-to-reach areas. According to bank records, the funds were withdrawn on the same day, March 11th, 2024 by the district administrator.

On March 20th, after a tip-off from the district treasurer and the NRM district chairperson, Hajjat Medina Naham Ojale took swift action and contacted Victor, who voluntarily went to the police and was subsequently arrested. Upon his arrest, he claimed he had been robbed at gunpoint, but there were no witnesses or evidence to support his claim.

The investigative officer in charge, Detective Isaale Robert, subjected the accused to a mental examination, noting that it is unusual for someone to be attacked at gunpoint and not report it to the authorities. The investigation also uncovered unfilled payment vouchers, a cheque book, and withdrawal slips. This thorough investigation demonstrates the NRM's dedication to uncovering the truth and maintaining integrity within the party.

It was also revealed that Masua had a prior police issue involving embezzlement in 2021, which was settled at the district level without the party being informed of his misconduct. This incident highlights the party's vigilance in addressing past misconduct and ensuring accountability.

During the launch of the registration exercise, NRM Chairperson HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni cautioned party members against embezzlement, emphasizing that those who steal party resources will be punished. This strong stance by the party leader reflects the NRM's unwavering commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring that party resources are used for their intended purposes.
