NRM leaders, MAAIF officials discuss smart agriculture project

Tuesday 4th October 2022

The National Resistance Movement Secretariat top management, led by the Secretary General, Rt.Hon.Richard Todwong, and members of staff, today held a fruitful session with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF) officials who were led by the Minister, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze.

Leaders at the Secretariat offered their views and proposals on how the ministry can work with the party to effectively implement the upcoming projects to improve productivity, mitigate climate change implications, and ensure food security among households in over 70 districts.

The projects aim to establish agricultural centers in each subregion to provide farmers with technical advice on post-harvest handling to reduce aflatoxins and to collaborate with communities to develop the best environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

The Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong commended the MAAIF for prioritizing the views of the ruling party since it is the NRM’s manifesto and National Development Plan III that are under implementation by the government.

"We seek to engage your ministry more and all other ministries and government agencies to have our input on the policies and projects before they are presented to cabinet or parliament," Todwong said.

The seminar took place at the Secretariat head offices at Plot 10, Kyadondo Road, in Nakasero, Kampala.
