Odoi said the roadmap will guide the NRM fraternity on how the village elections countrywide will be conducted. Elections by the Independent Electoral Commission shall be conducted on 07 July this year for the 5 members of the Village Women Committees.

“We enter this primary exercise to look for the five (5) members at every village who will represent the party during National polls,” Dr Odoi said.

He added that the election exercise as agreed upon by the party top management yesterday Tuesday 31st May, will commence with the verification of NRM election personnel at the village, parish, sub-county and the district levels.

The nomination of candidates for the independent electoral Village Women Executive Committees will be conducted from June 27, 2022, to July 1, 2022, at the respective Sub County/City Division Headquarters, Uganda’s Electoral Commission announced.

According to the Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, an aspiring candidate for any office on the Women’s Committee shall be a female ordinarily resident in the village, aged eighteen (18) years of age or above and a citizen of Uganda; registered on the Village Women’s Council Register and no academic qualifications shall be required.

Furthermore, no nomination fee shall be required.

Addressing the media at the NRM EC headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday, Dr Tang Odoi said, “The conduct of Women Councils/Committees Elections are progressive in nature starting at Village and ending at National Level.”

He explained that “This means that for one to be elected at National Level, she should have been successfully elected right from Village level.”
