Newly elected Independent member MP Emmanuel Omoding signs MoU with NRM

Thursday 2nd March 2023

The newly elected Independent member of Parliament for Serere County Mr Emmanuel Omoding Okabe today afternoon paid a courtesy visit to the NRM Head offices in Nakasero, Kampala where he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party.

Hon. Omoding was accompanied by the Government Chief Whip, Hon. Hamson Obua, and the State Minister for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, during the signing ceremony. The MoU was signed between Okabe and the NRM, which was represented by the Secretary-General Rt Hon Richard Todwong.

Also present at the signing of the MoU was the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi.

In his remarks, the Secretary-General praised Mr. Emmanuel Omoding's decision to align himself with the NRM, calling it a "bold and wise move." He went on to say that Mr. Omoding's decision is a testament to the NRM's commitment to serving the people of Uganda and promoting the country's development.

"We welcome Mr. Omoding with open arms and look forward to working together to achieve our shared goals," the Secretary-General said.

Mr Todwong explained why the party supported its flagbearer and not Emmanuel Omoding in the by-election. He noted that the party had already identified its candidate, who was the NRM flagbearer, and that it was not in the party's interest to support an independent candidate.

The Government Chief Whip, Hon. Hamson Obua, stated that the signing of the MoU was a significant addition to the NRM Parliamentary Caucus in Parliament and that Hon. Omoding would now be able to officially associate with the National Resistance Movement.

He further added that this move would enable Hon. Omoding to better serve his people in Serere.

"We are pleased to have Mr. Omoding on board and believe that his contributions will be invaluable to the NRM and to the people of Serere County," the Chief Whip said.

Hon. Emmanuel Omoding expressed his pleasure at the signing of the MoU, stating that he was happy to work with the NRM to ensure that the people of Serere will have their voices heard and services brought closer.

The signing of the MoU between Mr. Omoding and the NRM marks a significant milestone for the party and sets the stage for future collaboration and cooperation between the two parties. With Mr. Omoding now an independent NRM-leaning MP, the party's Parliamentary Caucus gains a valuable new member who is committed to serving the people of Uganda and promoting the country's development.
