The Deputy Secretary General of the NRM party, Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko today traversed Wakiso and Kampala districts as she oversaw the training of NRM registrars that are mandated with updating of the party register.
The display and updating of the party register countrywide shall roll out this Wednesday 13th to Sunday 17th, March 2024.
Rt. Hon. Namayanja made several visits among them Nansana municipality where she was warmly welcomed by the Wakiso district, RDC Justine Mbabazi.
She assured registrars and other stakeholders of the Secretariat's commitment to facilitate a smooth registration exercise up to the grassroots levels.
Namayanja also extended her gratitude to the local leaders for upholding the NRM flag at the grassroots level. She emphasized the importance of updating the register, including categorizing different groups such as special interest groups, and ensuring gender sensitivity, as well as removing deceased individuals from the list.
"The registrars are tasked to uphold honesty and transparency throughout the activity to establish a trusted system for use in the NRM primaries," stated Namayanja.
She reaffirmed the party's commitment to democracy, highlighting the significance of voter registration as the foundation for the party primaries and the selection of NRM leaders.
"We are following the roadmap our National Chairman, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, launched on February 28th, 2024. We are conducting meetings at the district level, training sub-county registrars who will then train Parish and Village registrars. Over 90% of the districts have received all the necessary materials for the registration exercise, ensuring thorough verification of materials and a credible register acceptable to all members," she added.
Furthermore, in a separate training session held in Nansana Division, the Deputy Secretary General, urged all district registrars to expedite the registration process to ensure a clean register and a wider participation in the NRM voting process.
"We need a clean register promptly. The membership and voting registers are crucial for consolidating democracy, patriotism, Pan-Africanism, and socio-economic transformation in Uganda. Democracy begins with the voting process, and that process begins with the register," emphasized Namayanja.
Hon. Salim Uhuru, the Mayor of Kampala Central Division, echoed the importance of discipline in the registration exercise, emphasizing the readiness of the NRM to address any challenges encountered during the primaries.
