My dream is to improve livelihoods–Oucor tells Serere voters

Wednesday 15th February 2023

The Serere county aspirant on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket, Mr.Philip Oucor has assured voters that his leadership will focus on programs that create wealth and reduce poverty among his people.

Oucor said that having grown up and studied in a rural setting amidst hardships of limited resources to access basic needs inspired him to love and work to uplift his community.

“I was born in the village. I used to walk bare-footed for many miles to go to school on an empty stomach. I hawked boiled eggs in my trading centers to make ends meet and raise school fees. But all this didn’t weaken me, it instead encouraged me to work harder to transform my community,” Oucor said today Wednesday while on a campaign trail seeking support in Kateta sub-county.

Oucor said, “I know how poverty hurts. I know how Poverty derails the growth and development of an area. If you elect me to parliament, I will lobby funds for you people to start up businesses and generate incomes for your families.”

He pledged to work with the government to ensure that Akamusala II Health Centre is upgraded into a Health IV, to extend health services nearer to the people especially pregnant mothers and the elderly.

On education, Oucor said his reign in parliament will also focus on providing accommodation facilities to house teachers. “The teachers of our children will deliver much when they are sleeping well and nearer to the schools,” Oucor said.

Yesterday, Oucor promised to introduce a feeding policy for school-going pupils, an initiative that was proposed by the NRM party in its 2021/2026 manifesto.

Due to the high dependence on fishing and substance agriculture by the people of Serere district and neighboring communities, Oucor promised to lobby for resources through development to ensure that people work for both food and money. “The increasing population pressure on land can no longer support production, hence, Oucor suggesting a need by the population to adopt mechanization for high productivity.”

Hon. Rosemary Seninde Nansubuga, the Director for Mobilisation said, “Oucor will present people’s plight in the NRM caucus for special attention if he is elected. If you love President Yoweri Museveni, demonstrate this by supporting a candidate of his choice”.

The NRM  Director for Communication, Hon. Emmanuel Dombo urged electorates in Serere to entrust Oucor with the mandate of bringing better health care, good education for their children, and provision of safe and clean water among other basic needs.

“After winning, we shall return here (Serere) to assist Oucor in the fulfillment of all the campaign pledges,” Dombo said.
President Yoweri Museveni is expected to close Oucor’s campaigns on the 21st Tuesday of next week.

Polling is scheduled for 23rd Thursday, February.
