Mobilise more young people into NRM - SG Todwong tells district staff

Thursday 31st August 2023

The NRM Secretary General, Rt.Hon. Richard Todwong has tasked the party District Administrators to help in identifying and recruiting young people saying these are much needed if the ruling party is to remain strong, vibrant and competitive.

SG flanked by the National Treasurer, Amb. Barbara Nekesa was today Thursday speaking to over 150 NRM district administrators from across the country who convened at the national headquarters at plot 10, Kyadondo Road Nakasero.

Todwong said, “As our technical staff in the districts, I implore you to be more creative in the course of your duties to interest young people to join us. Your role is to analyze political trends and guide the Secretariat for interventions to be made.”

“That is the only way we (NRM) can grow stronger and attractive for many more years to come,” SG Todwong added.

Given the recent electoral commission roadmap ahead of the 2026 general elections, Todwong said administrators should prepare for incoming party activities like elections of party structures and verification of NRM electoral registers such that they are not caught offside.

Internal conflicts

Todwong also challenged the Administrators to unite and harmonise all party members, “be neutral. Don’t take sides when there are misunderstandings among some of our members.”

“Always be in office, reconcile and attend to the concerns of our loyal supporters,” he directed.

He appealed to the leaders to begin compiling and submitting monthly political reports to the secretariat capturing the performance of government programs and service delivery, saying the information would help to strategize for better.

The Deputy National Treasurer, Hon. Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, Director of External Affairs, Maj. (Rtd) Awich Pollar and Director of Legal Services, Counsel Enoch Barata graced the meeting.
