Soroti, Uganda — National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region, Calvin Echodu, has said party leaders in the Teso sub-region are united and focused on protecting the peace, stability, and development gains achieved under the NRM government.
Echodu emphasized that the region’s progress over the years has been built on a strong foundation of peace and security restored by the NRM, and that maintaining unity among leaders is crucial to sustaining that stability.
“We are focused on unity of purpose,” Echodu said. “Like in any family, relationships must be nurtured. We may have different opinions, but when leaders share one vision, it brings people together. That is what is happening in Teso today — a shared commitment to peace, progress, and service to our people.”
He noted that Teso, which once suffered from prolonged insecurity caused by the LRA insurgency, Karimojong cattle raids, and civil unrest, has now enjoyed lasting peace for many years. This peace, he said, has enabled the region to concentrate on rebuilding its economy and improving livelihoods.
“The NRM brought total peace to Teso after years of insecurity,” Echodu said. “Our people can now move freely, farm productively, trade, and educate their children without fear. That peace must be protected at all costs, because without it, there can be no development.”
Echodu highlighted that the government’s efforts to strengthen security and community policing have made Teso one of the most stable areas in Eastern Uganda. He added that the collaboration between security agencies and local leaders has been vital in maintaining this environment of safety and trust.
“Security is not just about soldiers and police,” he said. “It’s about people working together, being vigilant, and valuing the stability we have achieved. The NRM has provided that platform, and we must all play our part in safeguarding it.”
The NRM Vice Chairperson also praised the party secretariat for its coordination and support to regional structures, saying the renewed cooperation among leaders is translating into stronger mobilization and political consolidation.
“The NRM Secretariat and our structures are doing a fantastic job,” he said. “Their teamwork is producing results, and the unity we see today is helping us deliver even more for our people.”
Echodu urged citizens to protect the development gains made under the NRM — including improved road networks, health centres in nearly every sub-county, and access to education. He said these achievements are the building blocks for economic transformation.
He further noted that the party is prioritizing the empowerment of youth, women, and veterans to ensure that all groups benefit from the opportunities brought by peace and development.
“The youth, women, and veterans are active and central to our agenda,” he said. “We are consolidating their participation so that by the next election cycle, they are even more empowered and ready to lead.”
Echodu reaffirmed that the unity of purpose among NRM leaders, coupled with peace and stability, will continue to drive Teso’s transformation.
“We are moving in the right direction,” he said. “When we are united and at peace, there is nothing we cannot achieve.”
