NRM Women’s League Chairperson Ms Adrine Kobusingye has called upon Ugandans, especially men, to actively participate in the ongoing Village Barazas and support women candidates in the forthcoming Women Council elections, describing women as key drivers of household and community transformation.
Kobusingye made the remarks during a meeting with sub-county chairpersons in Sheema District ahead of the Village Barazas and Women Council elections. The meeting was also attended by Ankole Sub-region Coordinator and NRM Electoral Commission Commissioner Dr James Tweheyo, who urged leaders to intensify mobilization efforts and ensure maximum participation in the grassroots electoral process.
Addressing the leaders, Kobusingye emphasized that empowering women through leadership is essential in the fight against poverty at the household level.
“If we are to fight poverty at the grassroots, we need to bring women on board. Women are the custodians of transformation. I call upon all men to support the women. Women are always in the kitchen, so to fight poverty in households let us support and empower women by choosing leaders who will impact fellow women,” she said.
She noted that women play a central role in managing families, supporting livelihoods, and driving socio-economic development, making their participation in leadership structures critical to the success of government programmes aimed at improving household incomes.
Kobusingye further encouraged women across Ankole and the country to take advantage of the Women Council elections to elect capable leaders who will champion their interests and strengthen grassroots development initiatives.
The appeal comes as the NRM intensifies nationwide preparations for the Village Barazas and Women Council elections, which party leaders have described as critical building blocks for strengthening grassroots democracy and community participation.
