NRM Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja Nsereko has called on the people of Kalangala to maintain the unity and support they demonstrated during the recent elections by turning out in large numbers for the Village Barazas, Women Council elections, and LC I elections.
Speaking at a mobilization meeting in Mugoye Sub-county, Kalangala District, Namayanja thanked residents for their overwhelming support for the NRM and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, noting that the district had consistently placed its trust in the ruling party at various levels of leadership.
“I thank the people of Kalangala for voting NRM. President Museveni performed well, all MPs from Kalangala are NRM, and the LCV Chairperson is NRM. What we are left with now is to vote local council leaders who are NRM,” she said.
Namayanja commended the people of Kalangala for the unity they displayed during the recent by-election that saw Aidah Nabayego elected Woman Member of Parliament, urging them to carry the same spirit into the upcoming grassroots elections.
She emphasized that the forthcoming elections are critical because they will determine the leaders responsible for overseeing community development initiatives at the village level, including the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM).
Describing PDM as government’s flagship programme for wealth creation and poverty eradication, Namayanja said the success of the initiative depends on having committed and accountable leaders who can mobilize communities and ensure the programme benefits intended households.
“Uganda’s current flagship programme, the Parish Development Model, is a grassroots programme that needs to be managed well. As such, we cannot place the responsibility of managing this programme in the hands of people who have consistently disregarded and undermined it from its inception through implementation,” she said.
She urged voters to elect leaders who understand and support government programmes aimed at transforming livelihoods, arguing that strong grassroots leadership is essential for ensuring effective service delivery and community development.
The Deputy Secretary General also reminded party members that the Village Barazas, Women Council elections, and LC I elections form the foundation of the NRM’s grassroots structures and are crucial for sustaining the party’s mobilization capacity and development agenda.
Her remarks come as NRM leaders across the country intensify preparations for the grassroots electoral exercise, with mobilization teams encouraging citizens to participate actively in the democratic process.
Namayanja called upon the people of Kalangala, Greater Masaka, and Ugandans across the country to attend the Village Barazas and vote decisively in the forthcoming elections.
“Let us exhibit the same unity and commitment that delivered victory for the NRM in previous elections. By electing strong leaders at the village level, we shall strengthen our communities, safeguard development programmes, and accelerate the fight against poverty,” she said.
The Village Barazas and subsequent Women Council and LC I elections are expected to attract thousands of NRM supporters across the country as the party continues to strengthen its grassroots structures and deepen community participation in local leadership.
