The NRM District Election Officers (Registrars) have been urged to uphold integrity and high moral standards as they conduct the upcoming structure and primary elections. The electoral roadmap 2025-26 was released yesterday beginning with the nomination for structure elections at the village level and LC1 chairpersons.
In a meeting presided by the NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon.Richard Todwong, the registrars from across the country were cautioned against being manipulated by aspirants of various elective seats through gifts or monetary reward.
“The integrity of NRM leadership will be tested by your works in the exercise we are yet to undertake. Don’t be compromised. The stake is high. The interests are compounded. You are going to be accused either wrongly or correctly. Stand for the right things. I rather you are accused by members for standing on the side of truth,” Todwong said.
He said that in the future, “the electoral guidelines on how to conduct our internal elections will be issued. Don’t bend them to favour anybody. These guidelines have been discussed and agreed upon by the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and other organs.”
The NRM National Treasurer, Hon. Amb Nekesa said “The party can only deliver a thorough and credible primary election. You, our foot soldiers are up to the task.”
“Do not lower the guard. We had some chaos in some isolated districts because we did not have a proper voters’ register but this time I believe we shall have a fundamental change in the coming activities,” Nekesa said.
“We want integrity and doing the right thing, nothing else. Go and ensure that the will of the people is upheld by declaring the genuine winners of the party flags at every position,” Nekesa added.
Dr Tanga Odoi, the Electoral Commission Chairman urged the registrars from the village to district to work correctly and timely.
“The over 70,000 NRM electoral polling stations can be challenging for the registrars to handle but ensure teamwork to deliver prompt,” Dr Odoi said.
He reiterated the call to zero tolerance against corruption at all costs and stealing of resources that are meant for other purposes.
“You have stood the test of time and have won because of your integrity. Kindly do not let us down. We believe in you and reciprocate by delivering a credible and trusted election,” Tanga Odoi said
The meeting was also addressed by other members of the Party Secretariat's top management.
