The NRM Director of External Affairs, Maj. (Rtd) Awich Pollar, today Monday held a meeting with a section of leaders from the Institute of African Studies from the Russian Academy of Sciences led by Dr. Denis Degterez.
The Russian institute is seeking a collaboration with the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Uganda and other progressive African states to advance the development and fairness of countries on the continent at the international stage.
The institute mandated to provide expertise and analytical support for government initiatives was asked to team up with the NRM leaders to advance and correct the historical injustices committed against the people of Africa during slavery and the colonial era.
Maj. Awich praised Russia for waking up the world through supporting liberation struggles for self-determination against colonialism.
“We regard Russia as a progressive country and a big player in the development of African states. They greatly contributed to the anti-colonial struggles of African states and campaigning for independence,” Maj. Awich said.
He welcomed the good will of BRICS members in advancing the development agenda and fairness of African countries through constructive engagements.
Awich pledged to link the institute with universities and scholars to do research and contribute to journals that advance the position of Africa on colonial, slavery and cultural reparations because a case for compensation against injustice in our understating is “right and befitting.”
Dr Degerev extended greetings to the NRM from the United Russian party and commitment to continue cordial and bilateral relations with Uganda’s ruling party towards democratization.
