Hoima: President Yoweri Museveni has guided Ugandans to embrace the forthcoming village, parish and women council elections to ensure that they vote leaders who will take forward the agenda of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The Electoral Commission is set to conduct village, parish and women council elections. The voting will kick off on 23rd July, starting with women council, followed by the village chairperson on 28th July 2026.
The President said that village and parish elections are important because they will help the communities to choose leaders for the village.
This was contained in his message that was delivered by Counsel Enoch Barata, the NRM’s director for legal affairs during the Bunyoro sub-region leaders entry meeting held at Hoima Resort Hotel.
The meeting which attracted regional Party leaders was organized by the NRM secretariat to draw strategies on how they can massively mobilise flag bearers to win the elections.
Barata noted village leadership is essential in fighting against poverty and mobilizing wananch the to take part in wealth creation.
He added that apart from wealth creation, the village and parish leaders are key in monitoring services delivery in accordance with the NRM Manifesto.
He also added that villages and parish leaders play a big role in fighting against corruption by reporting corrupt officials to the Authorities and mobilizing the community to demand accountability.
"I call all Ugandan to turn up in big numbers and vote for LC1, LC2 and women council especially NRM flag bearers" he rallied Ugandans.
Jonard Asiimwe, the NRM Vice chairman for Western Region and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation condemned the act of fighting flag bearers and describing such as being non patriotic.
He asked NRM leaders to be patriotic and move on the ground support and mobilize for the flag bearer to ensure that they win the election.
