Kabale: Leaders from across the Kigezi Sub-region have reaffirmed their commitment to delivering successful, peaceful, and transparent Local Council I (LC1) Chairperson and Women Council Elections following a high-level preparatory meeting held at Cephas Inn in Kabale.
The meeting brought together NRM District Chairpersons, LCV Flag Bearers, Women League leaders, Members of Parliament, administrative officers, district registrars, and security officials to strengthen coordination and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Addressing participants, NRM deputy National Treasurer Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, who also heads the Kigezi Sub-region team emphasized the strategic importance of the LC1 elections, describing village leadership as the foundation upon which government structures are built. Ms Kyatuhaire emphasized the role of leaders in guiding and coordinating Sub-county and Village Barazas, which are expected to play a critical role in mobilizing communities and ensuring broad participation in the electoral process.
She directed all district leaders to effectively communicate the guidance of the National Chairman of the NRM, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, during all mobilisation activities. Ms Kyatuhaire also tasked participants with strengthening grassroots engagement, coordinating village-level activities, and ensuring that all administrative directives are implemented smoothly across the region.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to unity and reconciliation as essential pillars for successful elections. Leaders were urged to work together to maintain harmony within party structures and encourage constructive participation by all members throughout the electoral process.
The meeting was attended by Members of Parliament including Hon. Eliab Mporera, Hon. Patrick Katabaazi K., and Hon. Andrew Baryayanga, while several other legislators were represented by delegates.
Participants also held extensive discussions on operational challenges affecting grassroots mobilisation, including facilitation for leaders and security personnel, communication of party programmes, strengthening party discipline, and increasing women’s participation in Women Council activities. The issues raised are expected to inform ongoing efforts to improve coordination and support for party structures at all levels.
Closing the meeting, Senior Presidential Advisor on Regional Cooperation and Kisoro District NRM Chairperson, Hon. Dr. Philemon Mateke, called on leaders to remain focused on the broader mission of serving the party and the country.
He encouraged participants to embrace patriotism, discipline, and commitment to the ideals of the National Resistance Movement, stressing that the success of the elections would depend on dedicated leadership and effective grassroots mobilisation.
The meeting concluded with district leaders expressing confidence in their preparedness to coordinate the upcoming electoral activities. Participants pledged to intensify mobilisation efforts, strengthen party cohesion, and work towards free, peaceful, and successful LC1 Chairperson and Women Council Elections across the Kigezi Sub-region.
