Todwong rallies Acholi to ensure only NRM candidates win grassroots elections
NWOYA: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has urged party supporters in the Acholi Sub-region to ensure that only NRM candidates emerge victorious in the forthcoming Village Women Council and LC I Chairperson elections, saying the grassroots polls are critical to strengthening the party's structures.
Todwong made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing three Village Baraza meetings in Purongo Town Council, Nwoya District, where he commended party members for embracing consensus and unity during the selection of NRM flag bearers.
At Koyo Cell in Tangi Ward, party members, the NRM flag bearer and independent aspirants reached a consensus in the spirit of unity, a move Todwong described as a clear demonstration of the purpose and strength of the Village Barazas.
"This is a clear demonstration of the purpose and strength of the Village Barazas—to build consensus, foster cohesion and rally all members behind our party flag bearer, thereby strengthening our chances of victory in the forthcoming elections," Todwong said.
Todwong also joined members of Pabit Trading Centre Cell in Kiba Ward for another Village Baraza, where he said the gathering reaffirmed overwhelming support for NRM candidates ahead of the elections. Members verified the village party register and pledged to remain united throughout the electoral process.
Earlier, the Secretary General addressed another Village Baraza in Purongo Town Council, where he urged party members to actively participate in the grassroots electoral process and ensure that only NRM candidates triumph in the Village Women Council and LC I Chairperson elections.
He called on supporters across the Acholi Sub-region to rally behind officially endorsed NRM candidates, saying unity at the village level would be instrumental in delivering decisive victories and consolidating the party's grassroots structures.
The Village Barazas are part of the NRM's nationwide mobilisation drive aimed at verifying party registers, building consensus where possible and as preparing members for the Village Women Council elections and the LC I Chairperson elections.
