President Yoweri Museveni has officiated at the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Kira-Kasangati- Matugga road in Wakiso district.

The President who arrived  following another function where he had officiated at the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the Uganda National Military Museum in Mpigi district, along the Masaka road was received  at Kira by a number of political and NRM heavyweights led by the Minister for Works and Transport, Gen.Edward Katumba Wamala.

Museveni told groups of NRM supporters who had gathered along the road to welcome him that he could not address them for fear of spreading Coronavirus whereas campaigns were suspended.

“We are not allowed to speak to people gathered like this but I will address you on radio and television later in the day,” the President said.

According to the Minister for Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, the road that starts at Kira town roundabout runs west-wards crossing the Kampala-Gayaza road in Kasangati up to the Kampala-Bombo highway.

“The project involves construction of Kira through Kasangati to Matugga as phase one of the road and we expect in future to have phase two that will take Matugga up to Wakiso.

Along the project are five junctions that will be improved with traffic lights,”Katumba said.

The minister noted that construction of the 16km road will cost shs200 billion and will be fully funded by the government of Uganda.

The road is one of the many infrastructural development projects that President Museveni has throughout his campaigns said would be worked upon since government now has enough money to do everything it wants.
