The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has called for renewed unity among its Luweero District leadership as it prepares to launch a nationwide programme to construct party offices, with the national groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for next week in Luweero.
The announcement was made during a strategic meeting at the NRM Secretariat in Kampala between Secretariat leadership and the Luweero District NRM Executive Committee(DEC) , convened to coordinate launch preparations and resolve recent internal friction within the district leadership.
Addressing the committee, the NRM Deputy Secretary General Rt. Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko emphasized that the new infrastructure must go hand in hand with active grassroots mobilization.
"This facility will be a testament to our party's enduring presence, but our true strength lies in our ability to serve the people," Namayanja stated.
She urged local leaders to put aside their differences and intensify efforts in monitoring and promoting the implementation of the NRM Manifesto, particularly through government wealth creation programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.
Highlighting Luweero's historical significance to the party's founding, she noted that strong, united structures are essential to regaining parliamentary and local government representation in the district.
"We cannot effectively promote wealth creation and monitor the implementation of the NRM Manifesto if we are not united. Our leaders must put aside their differences and work together for the good of Luweero District," she said, while commending the district leadership for taking steps toward reconciliation.
The NRM National Treasurer Amb Barbrah Nekesa Oundo urged the leadership to prioritize collective goals over personal disagreements.
"The strength of our party lies in our ability to work together. We may have different opinions and approaches, but we belong to one organisation and share a common responsibility. Let us put our differences aside, support one another and work as one team for the good of the party and the people of Luweero," Nekesa said. She encouraged open communication and mutual respect to ensure stronger party structures and effective grassroots mobilization.
The NRM Electoral Commission Commissioner Ambassador James Williams Kinobe clarified the meeting's twin focus: briefing the district on the construction project and reconciling local executive members following recent disputes, including conflicting reports submitted during the election of an administrative officer. "We wanted to address these differences before moving to the next phase of our work. I am glad that the leadership has committed itself to working together as a team," Kinobe said.
Kinobe revealed that the land for the project was purchased by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, with construction funding provided by the party Secretariat. The programme will span 21 districts nationwide, but Luwero will uniquely host both district offices and a regional headquarters accommodating the Office of the Regional Chairperson a distinction reflecting the district's place in NRM history.
Luwero District NRM Chairperson Sam Buchanan welcomed the Secretariat's decision, describing the national launch in Luwero as a fitting tribute to the district's foundational role in the NRM liberation struggle. "NRM began in Luwero, and this district has a very big history in the formation of our party. We appreciate the Secretariat leadership for choosing Luweero to host this national launch. It is a great initiative, and our preparations are underway," Buchanan said.
Simon Kagenyi, Chairperson of the Luweero NRM Entrepreneurs League, proposed expanding the project scope into a broader institutional complex. He suggested incorporating a museum, conference facilities and historical displays to honour the liberators, preserve NRM heritage and serve as a centre for political education and community engagement. "We need something tangible in Luwero that reminds the people of where the NRM journey began," Kagenyi said.
The meeting was also attended by the NRM’s director for legal Services Counsel Enoch Barata.
