The NRM candidate for Kikuube LC5 by-election Paddy Kisembo has pledged to prioritize issues of the communities living on the shores of Lake Albert if elected on Thursday this week.
He was today Sunday touring the villages/landing sites of Buhuka parish in Kyangwali Sub County as campaigns for the Kikuube’s top job continue.
Mr Kisembo said that the fishing communities raised unique challenges that require urgent attention if he is on Thursday given the mandate to represent them at the district.
The major challenges in these communities are lack of clean and safe water and poor sanitation due to poor garbage disposal which puts people's lives in danger,” Kisembo said as he pledged to address the concerns very quickly.
Another big concern raised is the high level of school dropout due to lack of government schools especially at the secondary level.
“There is no secondary school in this area. Students move a very long distance to go up in Kyangwali to study which is very risky,” Kisembo said as he committed to lobby for elevation of Buhuka parish to a Sub County to attract a government secondary school and curb problems of school drop outs.
"So if the government allows it and we have a secondary school on this landing site, it would be a good thing to improve education standards among the people of the landing site in Buhuka," Kisembo said.
Dr Rosemary Seninde, NRM’s Director of mobilization who accompanied Kisembo said the people living near Lake Albert should elect the NRM candidate because he is carrying the NRM manifesto that is focused on improving people's lives through wealth creation and service delivery.
"President Museveni promised to set aside over a billion shillings for each fishing community to support their fishing businesses like acquiring gear, cold room to preserve fish among other facilities," Hon. Seninde said.
She also cautioned the people in Buhuka against the deadly Ebola virus that is already killing many people in the neighboring DR Congo.
"Kindly remain vigilant and cautious about the danger of Ebola because we know people from the neighboring DR Congo sometimes cross to these landing sites. Already there are some cases that were confirmed in this place,” Hon Seninde warned.
The campaigns will end on Tuesday 16th ahead of Thursday's election.
