NRM in high hopes as Adjumani West votes for MP

ADJUMANI — The National Resistance Movement (NRM) went into Thursday’s Adjumani West parliamentary by-election in high hopes as voters turned up to elect a new Member of Parliament following the death of former legislator Gen. Moses Ali.

NRM flag bearer James Leku Pilli cast his vote at exactly 10:46 a.m. at Openzinzi Primary School in Openzinzi Parish, Adropi Sub-County, and thanked residents for participating in the electoral process.

Leku urged voters who had not yet cast their ballots to come out early to enable polling, counting and tallying to be completed on time.

“I kindly invite you to come and vote now so that we can finish quickly,” Leku said.

He described the campaign period as initially hectic but said the situation had since calmed, with residents ready to participate in the election.

Leku also thanked the NRM Secretariat and party supporters for standing with him throughout the campaign.

He said he would strive to continue the work and responsibilities left behind by the former MP, particularly in advancing the interests of the people of Adjumani West.

NRM Director of Mobilisation and Cadre Development, Dr Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, expressed confidence in the voting process, thanking God for what she described as a peaceful exercise.

She urged residents to exercise their constitutional right to vote and emphasised the importance of civic education, saying citizens need to understand their rights and responsibilities in a democratic process.

Dr Seninde also cautioned voters to follow voting procedures correctly to avoid spoiling their ballots.

She called for unity beyond the election, noting that development requires communities to work together regardless of political differences.

“We have done our part; we have mobilised the people, talked to them and guided them, and we remain hopeful for a successful election,” Dr Seninde said.
