KASESE: The NRM party has swept all positions of Kirembe cell Women council in Central Division, Kasese Mucipality with Teddy Itungo Nyamusimba polling 214 against FDC's Esther Bbiira with 137 votes. NRM flagbearers also defeated the opposition in Railway Cell, Kidodo ward with 159 votes against FDC's 137.
Hon. Jane Alisemera Babiiha, the Commissioner of the NRM Electoral Commission who is also the Rwenzori Subregion Coordinator expressed happiness for winning majority of the leadership positions despite FDC's record in the district.
"The residents voted NRM in full view of the general public and NRM took all the positions. This stamps the NRM support having swept parliamentary and local government elections," Alisemera said.
She added," This victory is good for us as NRM and we shall work with the chosen leaders to extend better services to the people through government interventions like the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, skilling among others. I am very hopeful that we shall score so highly in the rest of the cells in the district with over 80%," Hon. Alisemera said.
She urged the residents of Rwenzori subregion to turn up overwhelming on Tuesday next week to vote for the NRM LC I flagbearers for village chairpersons.
Hon. Sarah Itunga Masereka, the Woman MP Kasese district said the NRM victory in the women council elections is a clear testimony that the ruling party support has grown.
"We are very excited about winning in Kasese including areas well known as opposition strongholds," Hon. Masereka said adding, "I am very passionate about this election because i want to work with the women leaders that have been elected to deliver services."
The newly elected Women Chairperson Teddy Itungo pledged to work with all other leaders for the transformation of the area.
