The head of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party membership register digitization process for the Rwezori Region has hailed leaders and members for highly embracing the exercise.
Jane Alisemera Babiiha, who is also a party Electoral Commission Commissioner, told the media the digitization centre in the Rwenzori area would beat the deadline by recording 100% of the membership on the new digital register.
“The region has 10 districts of Kasese, Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo, Bunyangabu, Kitagwenda, Kamwenge, Ntoroko, Kabarole, Bundibugyo and Fort Portal City.
“We have so far handled Kasese, Bundibugyo, Kyenjojo and Kitagwenda and these districts had the heaviest entries. The percentage of what we are remaining with is low,” Alisemera said.
Alisemera added that although the completed districts had many people, mobilization done by the party leaders was top-notch.
“In Kasese, we covered 100%, Bundibugyo and Kyenjojo 100% and in Kyegegwa we are almost done. By Thursday we shall be out of this place. So far so good,” the official said.
She said digitization would help the party to have the actual register.
“So when we have this register, on the day of elections, we shall not have any other person voting unless they are on the register.”
On challenges faced during the process of digitization, Alisemera said that they were assisted with a standby generator to cover up the periods when there were power outages.
“The coldness in the area also affected many data entrants who fell sick because of the coldness. The entrants got a cold shock. Many people got flue and cough. One of the entrants had some stress issues which were solved,” she said.
“We sleep well, we eat well. The school is very good. We eat five times a day. I understand all this is done because the school has farms. We eat chicken, we drink milk. Nyakasura has treated us. We hope to complete by Thursday,” she added.
Alisemera hailed the party leader for facilitating the digitization process.
“I want to thank the members of CEC and Crispus Kiyonga the chairman of Kasese. He did great mobilisation. All the leaders in Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo did a great job in ensuring everything ran smoothly,” she said.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank H.E. the President and National Chairman together with CEC for releasing this money promptly. Without resources, it is very difficult to move smoothly.”
