President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday evening hosted hundreds of delegates, ruling party officials and foreign guests to a fraternal dinner at Kampala Serena Hotel following his inauguration for another term in office.
The dinner, organised by H.E Yoweri Museveni in his capacity as NRM Chairman together with the Secretariat officials, brought together senior government officials, Central Executive Committee members, ministers, top Secretariat officials, Members of Parliament and delegations from liberation movements and sister political parties across Africa and beyond.
In his address, Museveni reflected on the historical ties between African liberation movements, saying their solidarity was shaped by shared struggles against colonialism, imperialism and underdevelopment.
“We are fraternal because we fought together in different spheres,” Museveni said, urging political parties to prioritise ideological clarity, political education and economic transformation.
The President said political organisations can only remain relevant if they address the socio-economic needs of citizens through wealth creation, jobs and security. He pointed to government programmes such as the Parish Development Model, which he said had helped revive support for the ruling party after what he described as years of complacency among some cadres.
“For parties to remain relevant, they must solve the social and economic problems of the people and guarantee security,” Museveni said.
He also called for deeper understanding of political economy, warning against “shallow analysis” of global affairs, while advocating a pragmatic approach that combines both capitalist and socialist methods to solve national problems.
Vice President Maj.(Rtd)Jessica Alupo congratulated NRM leaders for securing the party’s electoral victory and urged members to focus on implementing the NRM manifesto for the 2026–2031 period.
Speaking on behalf of visiting delegations, Asha-Rose Migiro, Secretary General of Tanzania’s ruling CCM party, described the gathering as “more than a dinner,” saying it symbolised the shared struggles and aspirations of liberation movements across Africa.
Migiro praised Museveni’s “No More Sleep” message, saying it was a call for renewed energy, innovation and responsiveness among political parties in addressing the expectations of citizens, especially the youth.
NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong welcomed the foreign delegations and congratulated Museveni upon his inauguration.
Delegations at the dinner included representatives from Algeria’s National Liberation Front (FLN), Tanzania’s Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC), Kenya’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Burundi’s CNDD-FDD, South Sudan’s SPLM, Zimbabwe’s ZANU-PF, Rwanda’s Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), Mozambique’s FRELIMO and Malawi’s United Democratic Front (UDF).
Other parties represented included Turkmenistan’s Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, China’s Communist Party of China (CPC) and Venezuela’s United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV
